I have always been fascinated by space and space exploration. I think I will blame my early exposure to Sci-Fi like Star Wars and Star Trek. The idea that we could live elsewhere has always fascinated me. The fact that we are taking leaps again in space exploration is a wonderful thing to see.

I don’t remember when Cmd. Hadfield first entered into my world. It was probably the now famous video of Space Oddity as I am a Bowie fan. But after that I was gifted with Hadfield’s book ‘An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth’ by one of my dearest friends and the opportunity to meet him, get a photo and get the book signed by Cmd. Hadfield himself. The book changed my perspective on the world.

When I was reading the book my life was going through change. New Job, end of a marriage and re-discovering me. It was like a manual to help me through that time. His wonderfully relatable writing style and mater-of-fact statement on some of the harder topics was something I really needed. The chapter called ‘The power of negative thinking’ is a must read for everyone in IT or other support role.

Enjoy 6 minutes of Chris Hadfield.
