I am a big believer in routine. I like be able to switch my brain off for periods of time. It’s not that I mind thinking and making decisions, but I enjoy the fact that sometimes I don’t have to for the small stuff. I was taken aback years ago by the idea of decision fatigue. The fact that every small decision you make take time and energy does eventually add up. The pandemic and the work from home through this for a loop so had to re-establish things. One of those is my morning routine.

I am a voracious news reader. It was always a part of my adult life. RSS is my favourite technology available today. It has the ability to be your news feed, but I don’t have to be your ‘friend’ to read it. You publish and I just get it in my reader. Simple. Recently I have been refining the list of sources and it got me to thinking about the idea of bubbles and echo chambers. I will always look for coverage that is sympathetic to my view point. It is a natural bias of course, but the recent trucker protests here in Ottawa have me thinking about this in a very different way.

The big thing that I have noticed from my feeds, many of them outside of Canada is this idea of declaring ‘Martial Law’. That is not what happened. The government of the day enacted a piece of legislation that open up a toolbox of temporary, TEMPORARY powers that requires approval by the legislature within 7 days of using it. This is not an over reach this is opening the toolbox to allow such things as financial restrictions and policing enforcement.

While I absolutely accept the idea of protesting. I do not accept the occupation of a downtown G7 nation by a group that had chosen, as is their right, to express the displeasure at the current situation. The main reason given for the occupation was the want of repeals of public health measures and mandates for vaccines.

The chant of Freedom that could be heard from the occupiers (I will not call them protesters) is quite frankly hilarious. The freedom of choice was never contravened. The choice of the occupiers to no be vaccinated is theres and theres alone. They were not rounded up and told to have the vaccination. They were told, if you want to continue to work, get the vaccine to keep yourself and more importantly others safe. Canada made a choice to live
